Acupuncture
Acupuncture is one of the modalities of Chinese Medicine.  Although an "acupuncture session" in the West often involves several therapies, such as moxibustion or cupping, the session primarily involves inserting fine needles into the body at specific points shown to be effective in the treatment of specific health problems.  These points have been mapped by the Chinese over a period of two thousand years and there are more than a thousand known acupuncture points.

Traditional Chinese acupuncture is based on ancient theories of the flow of qi.  Qi is simply understood as vital energy, an essential substance that nourishes and constructs the body.  It is understood that qi flows throughout the body in distinct channels somehwat like blood vessels and nerves.  When this flow of qi is disrupted, disease arises.  Acupuncture adjusts the flow of qi in the body, leading it to areas where it is insufficient and draining it from areas where it is stuck and/or superabundant.  In this way, acupuncture restores the harmonous balance of the body and its parts by reestablishing the free flow of qi.

The World Health Organization recognizes acupuncture's effectiveness for many common disorders including toothaches, earaches, sinusitis, rhinitis, laryngitis, colds, flus, bronchitis, asthma, allergies, emphysema, food allergies, nausea, indigestion, diarrhea, constipation, ulcers, colitis, hypertension, high cholesterol, arteriosclerosis, PMS, menstrual irregularity, endometriosis, infertility, TMJ, sciatica, low back pain, arthritis, carpal tunnel sydrome, fibromayalgia, depression, anxiety, insomnia, headache, migraines, neuralgia, and many, many other conditions.

Allison Becker, LAc, ND
Licensed Acupuncturist,
Naturopathic Doctor

Dr. Allison Becker brings the art of Chinese medicine to the Center for Natural Medicine.  She specializes in acupuncture, Chinese herbal therapy and bodywork techniques to bring balance to her patients.  While Chinese medicine is used to treat all conditions, Dr. Becker finds Chinese medicine particularly helpful in treating both chronic and acute pain, anxiety, insomnia and female hormonal imbalances such as PMS and menopause.   Dr. Becker works with the Naturopathic Doctors of CNM on a referral basis.  Chinese medicine dovetails beautifully with naturopathic medical care and can often restore balance to a person more quickly than with naturopathic medicine alone.  Ask your naturopathic doctor if Chinese medicine is right for you!

Dr. Becker holds Masters of Science in Oriental Medicine as well as a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine (N.D.).   Although she is also a Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Becker currently sees patients for naturopathic medical care only at the Naturopathic Family Clinic in Janesville.  She was trained at the esteemed National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon.  Dr. Becker is proud to have studied under well known physicians each of whom is a famous practitioner in either their homeland of China or the United States.

As a Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Becker is trained as a general practice family physician.  Dr. Becker has a diverse practice as the age of Dr. Becker’s patients range from newborn to elder.  Dr. Becker believes in working cooperatively with other health care providers and doctors to provide the best in complementary and alternative medicine, and ultimately, to best serve the interests of her patients.

Dr. Becker is a licensed acupuncturist by the state of Wisconsin.  She is licensed as a general practice physician specializing in natural medicine by the state of Oregon, as Wisconsin does not yet have licensure for Naturopathic Doctors.  Additionally, she is Board Certified by the National Association Board of Naturopathic Examiners.  Dr. Becker fully supports her profession on the state level as the president of the Wisconsin Naturopathic Physicians Association.  She is a member of the profession’s national organization, the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians.

Dr. Becker is pleased to return to her home state of Wisconsin after spending ten years in the Pacific Northwest receiving her education.  In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and exploring Wisconsin’s natural beauty with

her dogs.
